Becoming Dad
This was the first thing I found that felt like it was written for me. As a CPA, seeing something described as written by "a full time supervisor in asset remarketing at a large banking institution" actually caught my interest. It has a lot of perspective without a lot of fluff.
as of 2/2/16 I'm about 35% of the way through this one and it's gone so far as to inspire this entire blog.
In on It
This one is intended to be shared with your family, it's written to give them perspective on how to approach and understand their family who is going through adoption. We gave a copy to each of our parents. It's has some good, and some not-so-relevant, information.
20 Things Adoptive Parents Need to Succeed
This is the awful mess of a book that made me seek out, and thankfully find, Becoming Dad by James banks. From a secular CPAs perspective, it's awful.
The book is chalk-full of fluff that buries good messages (and there are some). Instead of talking about how young children struggle to express complex emotions the introduction starts talking about listening to your child's "heart whispers." The author also spends a lot of time talking about herself, and how lucky you are to have her and her book there to your rescue.
As of 2/2/16 I'm about 33% through this one. We'll see if I make it to the end.
